TREASURERS/MEMBERSHIP REPORT
No report was given as Treasurer was absent from the meeting.
MEMBERSHIP COMMUNICATION DISCUSSION
Julie Conolly suggested that there be information placed on the
Website about the role and responsibilities of the BAC as most
People don’t know what it is. Andrew will contact IPERS for
this and get information to Linda Linn to have in place on the
website.
Bill Maas will also write a new letter from the president to be
Placed on the website about the importance of membership and
the role of the association.
WEBSITE UPDATE
Linda Linn reported that there has been nothing new added to
the website recently. From the membership discussion it looks
like Linda will have some new items to put on the site in the
near future. Julie Conolly also suggested a new bright flier on
the website to hopefully promote new members. Linda said she
would talk to Kelli about this.
DISCUSSION OF DISTRCIT 1 BOARD MEMBER
Skip Moore was absent so there was nothing new in this area.
Bill Maas said he would contact John Hieronymus in Iowa City
about this.
SUMMAR OF BAC MEETINGS
Steve Williams and Andrew Hennesy reported about the
October and January BAC meetings. During the 4 th quarter of the
Year the Fund made some modest growth from about 39.4
Billion to about 40.7 Billion. There isn’t many new bills that
could affect IPERS in the legislature. The most recent one that
was introduced was HSB 59. That would give credit for military
service toward IPERS retirement without contributing during
those years. At this time there is no way of knowing the
financial impact of the bill but it would probably impact the
Sheriffs and Deputies group the most as they would most likely
have the most members with military experience. Also since the
Sheriffs and Deputies group in IPERS is fully funded they have
asked for cost estimates of a 1.5% COLA for their group. The
information was shared at the meeting with no decision being
made.
OTHER BUSINESS
Linda Linn asked if there are any new groups of employees that
are state employees that are paying into IPERS? If so we need
to reach out to them. Andrew will check with IPERS about
this.
Gary Davis asked how can we educate people about IPERS?
